Italy winger Candreva ruled out of Spain clash

Montpellier (France), June 25 (IANS) Italy winger Antonio Candreva was on Saturday ruled out due to a right hamstring injury from the pre-quarterfinal against Spain in the Euro football championship on Monday.

“Antonio Candreva will not be available for Monday’s game against Spain. The Lazio midfielder will not have time to recover from the injury remedied with Sweden,” Italy said in a statement.

The 29-year-old also missed the final group game against Ireland which the latter won 1-0.

Federico Bernardeschi was also rested on Saturday following a knock to the knee, but the team confirmed that he should be back in training on Sunday.

In place of Candreva, Alessandro Florenzi is an alternative on the right side of midfield, though he tends to play as a right-back at Roma.

Stephan El Shaarawy would come in to the left, moving Matteo Darmian or Mattia De Sciglio on to the right side.
