Barcelona have unveiled new signing Ivan Rakitic after he passed the medical earlier today.

Rakitic joined Barcelona from Sevilla for a fee of around €18million and signed a 5 year contract with the Spanish giants.

Rakitic bid farewell to Sevilla fans before signing for Barcelona, he also admitted that he is leaving as a “Sevilla fan” and he will return one day.

“I never thought that it would be so painful to talk about. I had prepared something to say but I prefer to say what I want from the heart. I want to acknowledge [Former Sevilla president Jose Maria] Del Nido for how he treated me and Monchi, who will be a friend for life. To José María del Nido Carrasco, who was always by my side. I also want to thank all the coaches that I have had, for what I’ve learned from them. And the most important thanks of all, to my colleagues. President Castro has also been very important at this time. I’m moved by all the people who came to wish me goodbye, I’m very touched by these fans. I know where I come from, I don’t want this to be a farewell because having been the first foreign captain since Maradona is something I can tell my daughter. Sevilla FC and the city will always be in my heart.”

“Sevilla was always my first choice. I asked for time to evaluate certain things and I decided to take a step in my career and take the opportunity to fight for more titles. Last year, a lot of my teammates left but I stayed because I wanted to achieve great things. Now the time has come for me to leave but always thinking only of football.”

“It mfills me with pride that the President does not like that I’m going. It is a good sign. I received an offer that fulfills me and the club. I told Monchi that if I renewed, it wouldn’t be to leave in two weeks, it’d be to fulfill it, that’s why I asked for time.”

“I have no regrets, I was always open and correct, that is why I say that the most important people in recent times were the President and Monchi, they never wanted to force my sale and they know it.”

Rakitic also revealed that he is not the replacement of Fabregas or Xavi, but to find his own place.

“I’m not going to substitute anyone, I’m going to Barcelona to be Ivan Rakitic, to do as best as I can but always being myself.”
