Manchester United lifted their first trophy, in what the fans will hope is the first of many this season, under their new manager Jose Mourinho in the League Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
However, they dropped a couple of points in the domestic league just a week later as they were held by Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side at the Old Trafford on Saturday.
Mourinho’s men missed a chance to move into the top-4 last week but they have a more than decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League with more than 10 games left in the domestic season.
They are also one of the favorites to lift the Europa League which will also push them into the elite competition next season, and Mourinho seems determined to improve on his squad accordingly.
The former Real Madrid manager has been looking to strengthen a couple of key areas in the squad and has been linked with a number of star players from Europe recently.
And reports from Spanish news outfit Don Balon he is now ready to steal a couple of players from one of his former teams.
Mourinho, who enjoyed a largely successful reign at the Bernabeu is now targeting two of the first team stars from the Spanish capital in German international Toni Kroos and French star Raphael Varane.
Having already spoken publicly about the chance of breaking the transfer record twice in two consecutive seasons, Mourinho is now looking to lure the Real Madrid duo in what could easily be the swoop of the summer.
27-year old Kroos has recently penned a long-term deal with the club and has been a regular in the first team but Mourinho is confident that he can lure him to the Premier League.
Varane, on the other hand, has been on the radar of the English club for a while now and it the report claims that the manager is determined to finally land the 23-year old this summer.
Both players together could cost United close to £100m in the summer but if he is able to lure the duo, Mourinho could well launch a title charge next season that could go all the way.
However, even the rumour of this move depends on United’s qualification for the Champions League and if they fail to get into the competition, Mourinho might find it that much hard to lure talents like these to the club this summer.
Do you think Manchester United have any chance of landing the duo at the end the season?
