Jose Mourinho renewed his long standing feud with Iker Casillas by poking a typical Mourinho jibe at the Spanish goalkeeper. This comment was following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League, because of which Porto were dumped out of the Champions League and into the Europa League.
Speaking to the Spanish station MEGA, Mourinho said, “No problem. I’ve done my job and he has done his, and he has done well. Now Casillas can win the only trophy he hasn’t won – the Europa League.”
The Porto captain also had another provocateur in the form of Spanish international teammate Diego Costa who dangled a leg as Casillas claimed a through ball. Diego was yellow carded for the incident and the scuffle would’ve been much more if the referee had not intervened during the war of words which erupted after this antic by Costa.
Mourinho has been one of the detractors of Casillas since his time at Madrid and had bought Diego Lopez as his replacement. A decision which he regretted not making earlier in his time at the Madrid club, he later reflected in an interview.
A major reason of Mourinho leaving Real Madrid was the antagonising of many star players at the club including the aforementioned Casillas, defender Pepe and winger Cristiano Ronaldo who all were publicly criticised by him during his tumultuous but generally successful reign at the Bernabeu.
Chelsea are currently struggling in the Premier League but their boat in UEFA Champions League is sailing hassle free so far. Jose Mourinho will hope that the Blues go ahead in this tournament at least.
