Liverpool and Manchester City are set to battle it out for Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac in January, according to Sport Bild.
Jurgen Klopp has utilised James Milner in that position after growing tiresome of Alberto Moreno’s constant mistakes in the Red’s defence, but Kolasinac could provide the German with much-needed relief.
However, if Klopp’s men can successful rival Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the Bosnian’s signature, Liverpool can add some required strength in depth to their team in a bid to improve their title ambitions.
The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer, so a cut-price deal is likely in January as Markus Weinzierl’s Schalke side look to prepare themselves for life without Kolasinac.
There could be more certified guarantees from the Anfield camp as to starting promises in Klopp’s eleven, with Milner unlikely to continue at left-back should the Bundesliga star join a whole host of players to leave Germany for the Premier League.
Roberto Firmino, Emre Can, Joel Matip and Loris Karius are just some of the players that the club have recruited from Germany’s top flight so Kolasinac would not be in short company in Merseyside.
However, one player that will not be arriving is Southampton’s Virgil Van Djik.
The Dutch international, who has a reported £25 million release clause, is among the highly-rated defenders in Europe, but the Daily Mail have reported that Klopp will not be focusing on finding a replacement for Mamadou Sakho next month.
