It has been a bizarre year for Liverpool center back Mamadou Sakho, who went from being the first choice for club and country to ranting on Snapchat about the lack of game time at 3:00am in the morning.
The drug charge that was laid on him by the WADA was a huge curse for the 26-year old who was banned from football. He later missed the Europa League final and also the EURO16 final in France due to the suspension but before the start of the season, he was completely free of all charges.
However, lack of proper game time ,along with an Achilles injury saw Sakho start the season in forgettable fashion.
He was asked to move back to the country from Liverpool’s pre-season US tour after he was late for a flight then a meal and finally for a team meeting.
It looked like Klopp summoned him out of the squad and it was also reported that he was now the 6th choice for the manager even when fit.
This saw Sakho take it to social media to vent his frustration with the lack of game time and it looked like his decision to stay at the club was a mistake.
However, just this week, the French international was given a huge lifeline in his career as he was included in Liverpool’s U23 game against Wolfsburg.
He put in a solid performance, almost getting himself on the scoresheet and that performance from the 26-year old seems to have had its effect on the manager.
Jurgen Klopp, speaking to the media ahead of the game against Swansea at the weekend revealed that the whole saga is now behind the duo and that they have made mends after the social media rant from Sakho.
Klopp was asked if he snapchat incident was a reminder to Sakho to keep himself out of social media, the German revealed that it was a warning to his whole squad about their workings on social media.
“Those two things are not a rule for Mamadou Sakho. It is a rule for every player. Work hard and do your best,” he said.
“The rest of this I spoke to the team about and I spoke to Mama and we spoke together and that’s it. From my side everything is done and now we can carry on. There is nothing else to say, he added.
This will come as great news for Liverpool fans who will be hoping to see their star player back in action, at least for the cup games in the midweek.
Do you think Sakho has a chance to make in into the starting XI of this Liverpool side?
