Lack Of Regular Game-time Could Force Manchester United Youngster To Leave

Manchester United young striker Marcus Rashford has been stalling a new contract extension due to lack of playing time, according to The Times.

The 19-year old has been in prolific form last season under former manager Louis van Gaal but has fallen down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese tactician has preferred veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede is in sensational form since moving to Old Trafford for free earlier this summer and has already scored 20 goals across all competitions making it tough for young Rashford to break into the first team.

The report suggests that Rashford feels that his career ‘gone backwards’ since his incredible start under van Gaal last season despite being interested to stay with Manchester United.

The situation of the player is more complicated as Mourinho has rejected loan offers from both West Ham and Sevilla last month and it is still unclear about the number of opportunities he could get for the reminder of the season.

Rashford was prolific last season when he scored five goals in just 11 Premier League appearances but the young striker has not scored a single goal for the club in Premier League since September. He has only played full 90 minutes in a game five times in this year’s Premier League and chances are hard to get by for the Englishman.

He has signed a new contract worth £50k-per-week deal in September and the club are keen to offer him another new deal as they look him as a future superstar and the contract extension could once again double his wages.

However, Mourinho has hinted that he sees Marcus as much better player by next season and backs him to get more chances post summer. Rashford should also be aware that Zlatan is 35 at the moment and Rooney is in the fag end of his career so it will not be longer before he gets the chances he deserve in the first team.
