After a run of good results, the loss against Southampton has pegged Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool back in the race to a European spot next season as they now sit in the 9th place in the Premier League table.
The manager is expected to ring in a number of changes to the squad this summer and recent reports have revealed that he is ready to make a double swoop from the Bundesliga.
German tabloid Bild revealed that the English outfit have sent scouts to Germany to keep tabs on Stuttgart’s Filip Kostic and Hoffenheim’s Kevin Volland for a possible move this summer.
Liverpool have lacked options in wide positions and it is expected that Filip Kostic will provide the width to the squad next season. It was reported that he rejected a new contract with the German side and is ready to make a move away from the club this summer.
He has made it clear that he wants to play in Europe next season and a number of clubs including BVB Dortmund and Schake are monitoring him for a potential move this summer.
The 23-year old has created more chances than any other player in his side and is one of the players in Europe who has shown great potential in recent times.
However, Kostic has not played enough international football to warrant a normal transfer and Liverpool will have to use FA’s loop-hole regarding extra-ordinary talents if they are to get their hand on the youngster.
Valued at around £24 million, Kostic may not financially be perfect for Klopp but he will fit into the German’s style of play with ease and would represent an upgrade over James Milner and Jordan Ibe, the current wide players in the squad.
However, the other player linked with the club might be financially a more viable option for the English club.
According to talkSport, Kevin Volland of Hoffenheim is also on the wish list for the German manager at Anfield. The 23-year old left footed winger is capable of producing moments of brilliance out of nowhere and is expected to make a move this summer with his club battling relegation this season.
He has 7 goals and 8 assists in 26 appearances for the Bundesliga club this season and has operated as a center forward for Hoffenheim for most games.
He has a great potential to develop in a top player in years to come and Liverpool are understood to be looking to trigger his release clause this summer
Volland’s contract with the German side comes with a £14 million release clause which will have to be met if a club wants to have talks about his transfer.
Klopp will surely be looking to get his services next season as his dynamism and goal scoring ability will only make the Liverpool squad stronger for the next season.
Only one of the two players are expected to make the move to Liverpool next summer and it will be interesting to see who Klopp chooses before the start of the next season.
