The biggest clash in the Premier League in the new year between Arsenal and Liverpool is just hours away as the fans of both clubs ready themselves for an action packed mid-week.
Both clubs are going into the game with different goals for the season as the Gunners who are at the top of the table are looking to cement their position while the Merseysiders are looking to climb up the points table slowly and steadily.
Arsene Wenger was more than confident with the squad he had as he made no additions to it in the summer transfer window. He will be very happy to see his club fighting for the title given the number of injuries the club had to face in recent times.
When they step out onto the turf at Anfield they will surely have just one thing in mind, taking all three points. Though it will not be easy, Arsenal have the personnel to deliver the goods and give Klopp’s brigade another disappointing night.
They will have to be at their best and negate any tactical approach from the German that might catch the visitors by surprise. They will hope to dominate the game and give the home side no easy chances so as to maintain their recent run of form.
They will be under tremendous pressure going into the game as a loss can easily see them slide down the points table slowly. They are just 2 points above Leicester City who with a win can overtake Arsenal on the night.
Wenger will be hoping to stay at the top of the table for as long as he can and this tie will be a crunch one for his title dreams.
Jurgen Klopp on the other end is in the middle of a mess at Liverpool. With players withering liked leaves in spring, he has had to dip into the transfer market for some reinforcements.
Steven Caulker the new loan signing from QPR is in line for a debut against Arsenal with Skrtel and Lovren out injured. This shows the state in which the club is at the moment. They are lacking genuine quality at the back and have not been able to settle into a center back partnership since Klopp has arrived at Anfield.
Going into this match against Arsenal, Liverpool are 8th in the table with 31 points. A win here can see them leap frog Crystal Palace into the 7th spot which will take them closer to the Champions League spots at the top of the table.
However, the pressure is not so much on the home side as they will not start this game as favorites. They are expected to put on a fight but are not really expected to take all three points from this game.
With the current situation in mind, Jurgen Klopp will not be too un-happy with a point. Liverpool is a squad that is building up slowly under the new manager who will have to be given some time.
This season, Liverpool are not even genuine Champions League contenders and are expected to finish in the Europa League spots. A victory against Arsenal will surely give them plenty of confidence that might help them stay strong for the rest of the season.
But the onus is surely on Arsenal to take a result from this game to keep their place at the top of the table intact. Wenger has already spoken about the importance of this fixture and will hope that his team turn up and give their best if they are to travel back to London with a victory.
