Unsettled Argentine winger Angel Di Maria has been more of a miss than hit since moving to old Trafford. With transfer window just around the corner, speculation about Di Maria leaving Manchester United are surging through.
However, despite all the rumors surrounding Di Maria’s exit, Louis Van Gaal and Manchester United remain hopeful about the winger’s stay and have confirmed that, they will only consider player’s exit if he asks to leave the club himself.
This news follows PSG’s hopeful interest of signing Di Maria in a player-cash deal involving full-back Gregory van der Wiel.
Manchester United invested £60million to sign the former Real Madrid winger but since then, Di Maria has failed to live up to the pre-season expectation. However, player himself discussed his desires of staying on with the Old Trafford club and create history with the club.
Speaking with Manchester Evening, Di Maria admitted that he is not happy with his first season and has plenty more to offer for the Old Trafford faithfuls.
Di Maria said: “I’m not happy with my first year in England,
“I moved here from Real to win titles and this season has been very bad for me. I’m frustrated because I want to do better.
“The fans in England have not seen the real Di Maria. I know I can offer a better level. This year was not good enough.”
“My challenge is not for one year, but to become part of the history of Manchester United.”
These comments from Di Maria do signal his intent on staying with his current club but Manchester United have kept the door open for Di Maria to leave the club if he wishes to.
Di Maria had a troubling start to his life in England after his house was robed during his first few weeks in Manchester. He must be given 1 season to prove to his worth to the United fans and Di Maria himself should not back out from the challenge of proving his critics wrong.
