A bizarre week that saw the Football Leaks website upload the contracts of Madrid star Gareth Bale and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has just got even bizarre with the contract of one Lionel Messi was put out for public earlier today.

Spanish Publication ARA has leaked the contract of the game’s biggest superstar and Barcelona would reportedly have to pay a huge sum to Lionel Messi if they decide to terminate his contract before its stipulated expiry.

It is highly unlikely that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will be sold by the Spanish franchise but recent rumors have seen Messi linked with a move away from the club.

The Argentine hitman’s contract is set to expire on June 30, 2018, and if Barca are to sell him, they will have to pay him handsomely according to the leaked report.

Catalan newspaper Ara “In the case Barcelona decided to sell him [before June 2016], they would have to pay Messi €19,941,000 (£15,069,669). [Ara] also claim that if they sold him in 2017 it would be a fee of €9,970,000 (£7,534,456).”

However, the La Masia graduate who won his fifth Ballon d’Or earlier this month made it clear that he wants to end his career at Barcelona settling all rumors of his move away from the club.

Talking to the French outlet L’Equipe, Messi said, “I’ll end my career at my home – Barça”

The report from Ara also indicated the 28-year-old is set to receive a new deal at Barcelona, and his salary will increase this summer from €22.8 million (£17.2 million) per year to €39.4 million (£29.8 million) a year.

The huge compensation is just another reason for the Bulgaria to hold onto their number 10 but Messi who is arguably one of the best players in the world of football will be impossible to replace and will surely serve his time at Barcelona before moving on.

Barcelona are at the top of the La Liga points table with a game in hand and are already into the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey in Spain. They are drawn with Arsenal in the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

They lifted all those three tournaments last season and surely Luis Enrique and his team want to repeat the performance and make history.
