Barcelona star Lionel Messi is reportedly angry at Neymar after the Brazil international missed their 2-1 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna yesterday.
Neymar was absent as Barcelona saw their title bid dealt another huge blow. Messi endured a difficult afternoon with Luis Suarez the only standout performer.
The result came just days after their heroic 6-1 win over PSG, where Neymar inspired a Champions League comeback with a brace.
However, he missed the game yesterday with Barcelona claiming it was down to an injury sustained against the Ligue 1 side. But Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim there was more to his absence than meets the eye.
For the third year in a row, the 25-year-old failed to make the cut for a game in the same week as his sister, Rafaella. Newspapers in Spain had pictures of Neymar celebrating the occasion with some gusto.
And it is said that Messi is fuming at his team-mate as a result. The Barcelona No10 is one of several players questioning whether Neymar has the right attitude going forward.
Barcelona’s thrashing of PSG on Wednesday night was celebrated wildly by the squad but they were brought back to earth with a bump on Sunday night when Deportivo de la Coruna stunned them at the Riazor.
A deserved victory for the hosts was executed by goals from Joselu and Alex Burgantinos, with Luis Suarez’s goal sandwiched in between.
The Uruguayan equalised in the first minute of the second half and could have done so again late on but German Lux made a fine save from his close-range effort.
Barcelona started slowly, with Suarez claiming afterwards that “we gave them too many first half minutes,” Luis Enrique having made five changes from the midweek victory.
Two were enforced, with a thigh injury keeping Neymar out, while Rafinha was ill. Arda Turan came in for the former, but was unable to offer the same verve and creativity, while Denis Suarez filled in for the latter on the right wing.
