European Champions Real Madrid has one of the strongest squads in the continent this campaign so it does not come as a surprise that a number of players at the club are unhappy with their playing time in the senior team in all competitions this season.
The Spanish giants are currently a point behind rivals Barcelona in the La Liga points table with a game in hand. They are also in with more than a decent chance to progress into the next round of the Champions League as Zidane looks to end his first year at the club in glory.
But the manager will have to worry about the future of star players who could be ready to move in the summer.
The likes of Alvaro Morata and Isco are already linked with an exit and one player that is now heading the same way is Colombia superstar, James Rodriguez.
The 25-year old came into the spotlight after a sensational World Cup with his national side in 2014 before securing a much-anticipated move to the Bernabeu.
However, the quality in the squad already at the Spanish capital has seen him struggle to cement a place in the first team at the club.
Under Zidane, he has become a peripheral figure at the club and a friendly fellow South American in Lionel Messi now has some advice for the attacker.
According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, the Barcelona hitman has spoken to James Rodriguez and has made it clear that he needs to move out of the Bernabeu if he wants his career to reach its potential.
The report went on to claim that Messi told Rodriguez that he could easily be the man around which a whole team revolves and that he does not understand how he is not a regular in the first team under the French boss.
Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United are already showing interest in the player for a move in the summer but the 25-year old is still adamant that he is ready to fight for his future at his current club.
Speaking after the 4-1 victory over Eibar where he got himself onto the scoresheet, Rodriguez said, “When I am given opportunities I always try and do well. This is all I think about,”
“I want to always be here. It’s clear that in life and football you never know what is going to happen but I want to remain here,” he added.
With Zidane also looking to add some more quality to his attack, it might just be the right time for the Colombian to switch his allegiances this summer.
Do you think James Rodriguez will stay at Real Madrid come the start of the next season?
