According to reports in Spanish daily Eldesmarque , Liverpool have entered the race for the signing of long-term Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi. The daily has claimed that the Merseyside club wants to go full throttle to land the German international at Anfield and are set to beat the Gunners in the pursuit of the defender.
The negotiations between Valencia and Liverpool have reportedly started since the La Liga side contemplated the idea of signing Liverpool player Luis Alberto on a permanent deal. Meanwhile, the daily has also claimed that the talks between Mustafi and Alberto are being done separately.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are desperately trying to bolster their weak backline. The Gunners conceded 4 goals while Liverpool conceded 3 against each other in the season opener.
Arsenal’s condition has deteriorated even further following injuries to captain Per Mertesacker injured and Gabriel ill. With another senior defender Laurent Koscielny also injured, Arsene Wenger had to play the inexperienced pair of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding in central defence against Liverpool.
With transfer deadline approaching near, it seems that the race to sign the Valencia defender is all set to heat up.
