Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is enduring a terrible debut season with the club. Many experts have given up on Balotelli to ever fulfill his potential and have tipped his career to go up in the smoke very soon.
All of this has had little impact on Serie A club Sampdoria’s intentions, who are keen on bringing the Liverpool flop back to Serie A next season. Sampdoria’s club president Massimo Ferrero was speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport where he suggested that Balotelli is suffering from too much limelight and criticism pointed at him.
Ferrero believes, as season or two away from the public criticism will do the striker a world of good and will bring back to the levels which we all know he is capable of.
Ferrero said: “I would take him. He’d be the real Balotelli again here. He wouldn’t have too much pressure here in Genoa.
“He’s lost his hunger. He’s earning too much. If he was only on bread and water, he’d be a champion again.”
Previously, Balotelli has had two tenures in Serie A, with Inter and AC Milan, both of which ended with player falling out with the club. Balotelli is always a gamble which is yet to paid off for any club who have placed their money and belief in the striker.
Sampdoria are willing to take a risk of signing Balotelli in the summer, being full aware of the striker’s antics on and off the pitch and his inconsistent form. Sanity says, Sampdoria should not go ahead and sign Balotelli but then who said that Football is a game for saints.
