Liverpool are heading into a summer of huge consequence as the new manager Jurgen Klopp will try to stamp his authority on the squad at Anfield.
The first change all the fans want at Anfield is the end of the term of present first choice shot stopper Simon Mignolet who has been erratic at the best in his time at the club.
He has never been able to win over the fans at Liverpool and has always looked like he is just a moment away from a mistake but with 3 clean sheets in the last four games, he has found some good form going into the business end of the season.
However, without a proper back-up, Liverpool will surely search for a goal keeper in the summer window and they were handed a huge boost in their pursuit.
Genoa CFC keeper Mattia Perin was linked to a number of clubs including Liverpool and Manchester Untied and both the clubs were given a boost after the agent of the player announced that a summer move for the player is possible.
Liverpool were on the verge of signing him- if reports were to be believed- in January but a deal fell through and Perin continued to play in the Serie A till the end of the season.
Matteo Roggi, the agent of the Italian national revealed that his client wants to play for a big European club and that he will not be available on a cheap transfer.
“I hope that Perin can play for a big club. However, if Genoa sell him they won’t give him away. He will leave for a big offer,” Roggi added.
In an interview a couple of years ago, Roggi stated that his client will cost as much as 20 million euros and that he will grow on to become one of the best players in football.
This price tag makes Perin the fourth costliest shot stoppers behind Neuer, Buffon and Toldo. He will cost significantly more than the likes of David de Gea, Courtois and Bravo who are doing astonishingly well for their respective sides.
This will leave him as the final option for any club especially for Liverpool.
The present goal keeper Simon Mignolet has had his own criticism but has been far more effective than the 23-year old Perin.
Mignolet’s stats show that he makes a save every 36 minutes compared to the 27 minutes for Perin. The Belgian also concedes a goal every 79 minutes on an average while Perin averages a goal every 71 minutes.
All these stats show that the 23-year old might not really be an upgrade on the current squad and it is easy to understand if Liverpool pass this opportunity.
They are still strongly linked with Barcelona shot stopper Ter Stegen who is understood to be happy playing in La Liga.
Who do you think Klopp will start as the number 1 come the start of the next season?
