German star Mats Hummels is one of the many players unsettled in the Bundesliga and is being scouted by a number of clubs all over Europe.
The Borussia Dortmund skipper who scored the equalizer for the German side against Liverpool in the 1st leg of the Europa League encounter has thrown his future into doubt amidst interests from clubs away from the league.
Manchester United are understood to be keen on getting the player to the Premier League this summer but their rivals Liverpool are the front runners to sign the defender.
Hummels broke onto the national scene under present Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp and has since grown up to become one of the best defenders in Germany.
He is strong in the air and is a very good player with the ball at his feet. He was a useful player for Klopp at back at his time at Dortmund and it is understood that both parties are keen on a re-union come the end of this season.
With just over an year left on his contract at Dortmund, the 27-year old has revealed that he is ready for a new adventure in his career.
Talking to German news outlet Bild, Hummels said that he is not completely unsettled at his current club but revealed that his place in the squad has been in jeopardy and that he will consider leaving the club this summer.
‘I don’t necessarily want to [leave], but I have to make a big decision. I have been back and forth a lot,’ Hummels said talking to Bild.
He also opened up about his possible destinations and though he did not give away any names, he made it clear that he wants to move to a club where he can win trophies.
He explained that he does not expect to win titles every year but said that he wants to be competing at the highest level for trophies right now, when he is at his prime.
‘Age gives you a feeling that you don’t have forever to win. I realize in every year I don’t win a title, I’m closer to retiring,” Hummels added.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have not been close to winning trophies in the last couple of season but both the teams are more than capable of competing at the highest level.
It will be interesting to see where the 27-year old chooses to move this summer. However, whichever team he walks into, he will surely make them stronger.
Do you think Hummels will succeed at Liverpool or Manchester United?
