Premier League giants Liverpool FC have begun talks with former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti to replace their current manager Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool have been linked with both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp who went in to sabbatical after leaving Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund respectively. The veteran Italian manager will be undergoing a suregry which would keep him out of action till January.
The Reds are yet to find success under manager Brendan Rodgers who is at the club since 2012. The last time this team actually did well was in the 2013/14 season when they came very close to win the Premier League title since 1989. Unfortunately, they faltered in the last lap and Manchester City had the last laugh.
Since Luis Suarez’s departure from the club last summer to Barcelona the club have gone down in the pecking order in the league. They finished 6th in the Premier League and were ousted in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Brendan Rodgers quite often has been criticised for his poor tactics and transfer policies. Irrespective of having a very sound financial position, Rodgers never made big signings. The team recieved a hefty amount by selling Suarez last summer but failed to find an able replacement of the talisman.
Rodgers’ tactics have been criticised often and several people have blamed the manager for the recent downfall.
According to Italian daily Calciomercato club owners FSG have already held talks with Carlo Ancelotti’s entourage and are hoping to strike a deal soon. The lack of financial ability and Champions league football means the task is quite difficult, but all parties believe that it is not impossible.
As for Rodgers, it will be interesting to see how he reacts to these reports and if his side can bounce back against Carlisle tomorrow in the Capitol One Cup tie.
Carlo Ancelotti has previous experience of working with Chelsea FC in the Premier League. He had also won the Blues, the league title in his first season along with the FA Cup.
The Italian manager brings with himself a wealth of experience and proven pedigree. Although Liverpool fans are keen on the former Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, Ancelotti is perhaps the perfect candidate to bring some stability into the club.
Brendan Rodgers’ first team coach Mike Marsh and assistant manager Colin Pascoe got sacked for the poor performance by the team but Rodgers was backed by the owners Fenway Sports Group but the display of the team this season has not improved.
Liverpool has lost their last two games, conceding six goals, and have scored only three so far this season. Rodgers’ tactics and playing players out of position has been criticized by football experts and fans while latter is desperate to see Rodgers getting sacked. They even opened a page to raise money to compensate Rodgers to be sacked.
