According to a report in The Mirror, Liverpool have launched a bid for Real Madrid star Asier Illarramendi.
Asier Illarramendi is deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid after just starting 10 games in the La Liga last season. Reports also suggest Liverpool had a £10.6million bid rejected for the 25-year-old, but a new improved bid closer to £15m plus add-ons might be accepted. It is believed Asier Illarramendi doesn’t feature in the plans of new boss Rafael Benitez, and he might seal a move before the pre-season.
Illarramendi joined Real Madrid in 2013 for a fee of £25 million, but has failed to establish himself in the starting XI. Illarramendi could be Reds 7th signing of the summer after sealing deals for James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne.
Meanwhile, Reds duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino might join the Liverpool squad early in pre-season tour after Brazil lost to Paraguay on penalties in the Copa America. It was earlier announced Liverpool have completed the signing of Roberto Firmino for a record Bundesliga fee. His countryman Lucas Leiva believes he can find the back of the net regularly.
“I think we are getting a goalscorer, which we probably needed from last year because we didn’t score many goals,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I think he showed the last couple of seasons that he’s capable of doing that.
“He’s already playing for the national team, which is good, and we just hope that he can adapt quickly to the Premier League.
“But we see the example of Emre Can, he adapted very well because I think the German league is quite similar to the Premier League, so hopefully he will go straight in and start to perform.”
