Former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher hits out at Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas for his perceived lack of defensive ‘intelligence’ in the wake of the Blues’ 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City.
Fabregas was targeted as one of the main culprits responsible for allowing the Citizens to charge at the Chelsea back four so frequently with Carragher suggesting that his lack of tactical knowledge is a reason Barcelona allowed him to leave for Stamford Bridge.
”Why do you play Ramires,” Carragher asked on Sky Sports Monday Night Football. “Because you got someone in Cesc Fabregas who is a fantastic footballer, creates goals, scores goals, but he can’t defend as we saw in the first 10 seconds when David Silva turns him and puts Aguero through.
”He lacks tactical intelligence, especially defensively. That’s one of the reasons Barcelona let Chelsea take him.
“If you play him in there [central midfield], Fabregas needs protection from Matic and Ramires and he didn’t get that, especially from Ramires,” Carragher added.
“The problems they had down that left side came from Ramires and Fabregas together.”
Chelsea have yet to record a win in their opening two Premier League games after a 2-2 draw with Swansea City and 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
