Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers have already started to look ahead to the next season as they look to re-build their squad twice in 3 seasons. After declaring that he is the right for Liverpool, Rodgers has launched a £23 million bid for Real Madrid’s midfield man Asier Illarramendi.

Central midfield appears to be the cause of concern for Liverpool as Steven Gerrard’s exit from the club and the decline in Lucas Leiva’s form leaves Brendan Rodgers with very few options at his disposal. To sort out this conundrum Illarramendi is eyed as the perfect signing for Liverpool.

Since his move from Real Sociadad in 2013, Illarramendi has failed to make any mark at Real Madrid and has been only a bit-part player at Bernabeau. His biggest low came in Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter final 2nd leg tie where Carlo Ancelotti preferred to play Sergio Ramos (A defender) instead of Illarramendi.

Liverpool believe that their £23 million bid will be enough for the Spanish giants to cut their losses on Illarramendi and sell the player next season. Brendan Rodgers hopes to form a significant partnership between Jordan Henderson and Illarramendi ahead of the next season to provide the mch needed spine to an edgy Liverpool side at the moment.
