An injury hit Liverpool squad was always bound to be busy in the transfer market and recent reports suggest that the Jurgen Klopp is keen on a move for the experienced Martin Caceres from Juventus.

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the 28-year old defender whose contract at the Bianconeri expires at the end of the season.

According to leading Italian newspaper Calciomercato, the Uruguayan who will be a free agent after the end of the season is free to negotiate a pre-agreement and it is believed that the Reds are in pole position to snatch him up.

Caceres is a strong, experienced defender who has proven himself in Italy but has had a stop start career hampered by injuries. He has made 20 appearances or more in a season on just 2 occasions since 2007 and has not been able to find a place at Juventus lagging behind one of the best defenders in Europe at the moment.

He will surely be an upgrade for this Liverpool squad and it will be a bargain if they are able to land him on a free transfer but the player’s history with injuries might just make the Kop think about the transfer once again.

He has made just 4 appearances for Juventus this season after being suspended due to an alleged drink-drive incident and has not been able to get his place back in the team.

Liverpool will surely look at him as a player who can provide the depth that the squad needs in extreme situations and with a free transfer on the cards, Caceres looks set to make the move.

Liverpool have Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovre, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure all on the sidelines at the moment but Liverpool will not look at Caceres as he will be available without a price in the summer.

It will be interesting to see how this transfer story pans out in the rest of the window.
