Liverpool Player Ratings In Their 3-2 Loss To Swansea City

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool may have just dropped their chances of a Premier League title this season as they gifted Paul Clement’s Swansea side all three points at Anfield this weekend. After a dull first half that saw neither keeper worked, Swansea came out strongly in the second half, as Fernando Llorente, scored his first two away goals in the Premier League in a space of 4 minutes to ping Liverpool back.

Roberto Firmino’s brilliance kept Liverpool in the hunt as the Brazilian scored a brace to give his side some hope. But some atrocious defending gave Gylgy Sigurdsson a chance to steal all three points which his gleefully obliged. This loss might see the Reds drop as low as to the 4th place in the points table, leaving them with little chance of lifting the title come the end of the season. Here are the player ratings for the Reds in this game:

Simon Mignolet (5):

Did not make a single save on the night as he let 3 and was also not commanding enough from crosses on an embarrassing night for the shot stopper.

Nathaniel Clyne (5):

Just coming back from injury, the Liverpool full-back saw plenty of the ball wide on the right for most of the game but he failed to use it to his side’s advantage on the night at Anfield.

Dejan Lovren (5):

His mistake led to the corner that Llorente opened the scoring from but other than that, he was solid at the back for Liverpool.

Ragnar Klavan (4):

Was under pressure all night after picking up a booking early in the game and was at fault for Sigurdsson’s winner as well.

James Milner (5):

Was wasteful in his crossing and dead ball delivery on the night as he failed to create even a single chance for Liverpool on the night.

Jordan Henderson (4):

Though won back the ball a number of times in the midfield, Henderson, was wayward with his passing and gifted the ball away too often for his side to maintain the pressure in the final third.

Emre Can (4):

Another poor performance from the German who failed to contribute in the midfield and in the attack on an unproductive night.

Georginio Wijnaldum (5):

The Dutch midfielder was busy all night trying to push Liverpool on the front foot and also picked up an assist on the night but failed to do enough to give his side even a point from this game.

Adam Lallana (5):

Though had his moments in the midfield, Lallana, was completely ineffective in the final third and is not doing a great job replacing Sadio Mane on the flank.

Roberto Firmino (7):

The Brazil attacker started as a false-9 on the night but was every where on the park on his way to his brace. He was easily the best player for Liverpool on the night and did not deserve to be on the losing end.

Philippe Coutinho (6):

Was the only creative outlet in the first half for Liverpool but he failed to have the kind of an impact needed only to be subbed off at the hour mark.

SUBS:

Daniel Sturridge (4):

Replaced Coutinho with more than half an hour to play but touched the ball less than 10 times proving to be ineffective yet again.

Divock Origi (5):

Gave some much needed energy and pace to the attack for Liverpool but could not do enough to give them a point from this game.

Joel Matip (5):

Got just a couple of minutes in the final third as Klopp threw him on to try and use his height to nick a point late in the game.
