Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez for a massive £16.9m, according to reports in Spain.
The Reds are looking for a potential central defender as will be in the market in the summer to find a quality defender. Nacho would fit perfectly for Klopp’s needs as he has come through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system and has went on to feature for the senior team in 66 games so far.
Despite being a squad player for Real Madrid, Nacho found it difficult to break into the first team with the likes of Raphael Varane, Pepe and Sergio Ramos all fighting for the central defense positions ahead of him.
Klopp is hoping that he can pull off the signing as the Spaniard is looking for more regular playing time which he will not get at Real Madrid even in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Reds have thrown away their entire season in January after a series of poor performances which saw them get knocked out of FA Cup, League Cup.
The major part of these poor results was their defense which leaked goals even to smaller teams and Klopp believes signing Nacho would provide competition to Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip next season.
Nacho can also play as a left back and right back which gives Klopp much needed versatility the Reds have been lacking due to lesser options. However, before making the move, Klopp is determined to finish in the top four which will enhance their chances of getting players due to Champions League.
The addition of Nacho would surely help Liverpool in defense as it reduces work load on other key players who can be rested for important games and the injury of Joe Gomez would also play a huge role in the decision over the transfer in summer.
