Liverpool ready to offload three forwards this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has decided to offload three of his forwards at the end of this season, according to a report from The Express.

Christian Benteke, Mario Balotelli and Joao Carlos Teixeira are believed to have fallen short of the manager’s mark, and he wants to sell them in the upcoming summer transfer window, in order to use the funds to put his own touch on the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers last year.

Actually no one really expected Liverpool to stick with Balotelli following his terrible display during his time spent at Anfield, so it emerges as no surprise that the Italian doesn’t fit into Klopp’s plans for next season. The controversial striker is right now on loan at AC Milan and it is highly unlikely he will ever wear Liverpool jersey again.

But Milan are not interested to extend Balotelli’s loan spell with the club beyond this season, meaning the player will return to Liverpool at the end of the campaign. Klopp was hopeful Balotelli would remain out on loan next season, but the player’s poor form and injury troubles have convinced the Italian club to turn their attention to other forwards.

Benteke, meanwhile, was thought to be as prolific as he was for Aston Villa, but since his arrival, the Belgian has only managed to score eight goals and has not even been trusted with a starting spot by the Liverpool boss.

The Belgian forward now finds himself behind Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi in the pecking order, and is not at all happy. In an interview to Sport/Voetbalmagazine, he said: “Some team-mates have said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp, because I certainly would play. When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you, it is hard to understand. I do not understand why people say that [I cannot fit in at Liverpool]. I can play pressing and moving a lot. It is not that we play in the Barcelona style.”

Klopp is also ready to let go a promising youngster like Teixeira when his contract expires at the end of this season. Fiorentina are reportedly leading the race to sign the 23-year-old Portuguese.

Joao Teixeira is hoping to take part in the Olympic Games in Brazil later this year. He even didn’t travel to Tenerife for the Reds’ warm weather training camp this week because the Portuguese was invited to link up with the Portugal Under-23s squad. Teixeira is keen to represent his nation at the Olympics – meaning he would miss the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder, who has made seven appearances under Jurgen Klopp this season, is out of contract this summer and looks increasingly unlikely to sign an extension.
