Sunday Mirror are claiming that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is willing to let his star defender Martin Skrtel leave in the summer. According to Sunday Mirror, club leading the race to sign Skrtel are Bundesliga’s emerging powerhouse Wolfsbug.
Wolfsburg have done good business in the last transfer window signing Andre Schrulle and Ivica Olic. The Bundesliga outfit already has an exciting core at the club built around the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bas Dost.
Wolfsburg are looking to add a quality defender to their ranks and Martin Skrtel has been identified as their primary target for the summer. Liverpool are coming off a horror 2014-15 season where they have seen their Champions League push wither away with crucial defeats at wrong time and an FA Cup semi-final exit to Aston Villa have dashed their last chance of silverware this season.
Brendan Rodgers is not a very popular man at Anfield at the moment and now with the decision to let Skrtel leave the club next season will trigger huge backlash by the fans after seeing their beloved Dannie Agger allowed to seek an exit from Anfield.
Liverpool are short on quality defenders at the moment and Rodgers’ key signing Dejan Lovren has endured one of the worse debut season in Premier League history. Wolfsburg are confident of signing the Liverpool star amid all the turmoil at Liverpool and look to mount an even greater Bundesliga challenge next season.
