Reports in local newspaper Liverpool Echo suggest Liverpool want to sign Dele Alli, but are yet to table a formal offer for the midfielder.
Alli scored 6 times in 33 appearances for the League one side lasts season attracting interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea, but it seems the Merseyside club are leading the race to sign the youngster.
Brendan Rodgers scouted him personally earlier this year against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 4. MK Dons manager Karl Robinson holds an amicable relationship with the Liverpool boss.
Robinson: “I know Brendan quite well and we speak about different players all the time. I don’t know the reason why he was at the game but Dele is special.
“You will have seen him do some silly things because he is 17 years of age but he produced some bits of magic and you don’t see many of them playing in an FA Cup third-round tie against a very good Wigan side and not look out of place.”
MK Dons boss Karl Robinson believes Alli is one of the best talents he has ever worked with and describes him as a “scary” talent.
Karl Robinson :”He is one of the most gifted 17-year-olds this country has ever seen.
“I’ve said from the word go, he’s as good as it gets and he’s the best young player I’ve ever worked with.
“He’s a scary talent and arguably the best central midfielder in the country for his age.
“We know there’s going to be a multi-million pound bid for Dele one day, but it’s important he stays where he belongs [for the time being].
“I see him as a young Steven Gerrard, who had a similar frame and build to him. He needs to learn to score more goals and is getting better at that.”
Players like Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson have benefited from Rodgers’ youth policy and a move to Merseyside will be perfect for a talent like Dele Alli. According to Daily Mail, Alli will cost Liverpool £3.5million, but the fee could rise to £8million.
