Liverpool will be boosted by the news that contract rebel Alexandre Lacazzete is set to hand a transfer request to Lyon.
L’Equipe in France has claimed the 24-year-old is ready to officially ask for a move away from Lyon this summer in an attempt to force through a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool his most likely destination.
The French forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 giants since January, with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all interested.
Lacazette, whose current deal expires in 2018, has added fuel to the exit rumours by stalling over a new contract at the Stade de Gerland.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the French striker for a long time and could use the situation to bring the French to Anfield.
Rodgers’ top target remains Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke but the Reds do not value him as high as his £32.5m release clause so they may decide to look elsewhere with Lacazette an appealing option.
The striker was in clinical form for Lyon last season scoring 27 goals in 33 games in the Ligue 1 bagging the “Ligue 1 Top Goalscorer” award.
He was also voted “Ligue 1 Player of the Year” in 2014-15.
He was selected in the “Ligue 1 Team of The Year” for two consective seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Lyon are trying their best to retain their top player but yet to reach on an agreement.
Liverpool have been incredibly busy in the transfer market this season with six signings in the form of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne.
Liverpool’s chief executive officer Ian Ayre commented few days ago that the club is ready to splash more money on good signings and Lacazzete’s transfer request could be a boost for the Merseyside club.
