Liverpool have been a busy club today with a number of new stories making their way to the papers linking players to and away from the club.
The manager seems to be approaching the window with a plan as he has already completed the signing of a number of players ahead of the next season. So let’s take a look at all the stories surrounding the Reds on the night:
To begin with, Liverpool officially announced their new signing Georginio Wijnaldum who was assigned a no.5 t-shirt which is apparently lucky for the Dutchman in the past.
He will join the rest of the squad in Europe in a couple of days.
Moving on, in a bizarre story, Jurgen Klopp is linked with a £28m move for 20-year old Schalke winger Max Meyer.
The German international is one of the most exciting young prospects in the country but is hard to imagine why the manager would want to spend that much of an amount on a player whose position is already filled with stars in the squad.
In another similar story, the club is also linked with a move for PSG’s Lucas Moura. The pacey Brazilian has been an impressive player for the French outfit for a couple of years now and was one of the first players to be linked with a move to Klopp’s Liverpool this summer.
However, the stories cooled down gradually and are back only today. Moura is a player who will suit Klopp’s style of play but again, he is not what the club needs going into the next season.
In other news, Klopp seems to have finally turned his attention towards strengthening the left-back spot in the squad.
Recent reports have suggested that the Liverpool manager wants to bring Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi to the club this summer. The 22-year old French international was impressive in his previous stint with the relegated Villains and is desperate for a place back in the Premier League.
He may not be the worst solution to the problems on the left side of the defense that cost Liverpool plenty of games in the previous season.
The club was however dealt a blow in their pursuit for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
The Premier League winning left-back is reportedly happy to stay with the Foxes for another season and it is now understood that he will not be moving away from the King Power stadium this summer reducing Liverpool’s options to strengthen their defense.
Moving on, Liverpool’s veteran centre back Kolo Toure, who was released by the club at the end of the last season is back in competitive football and has signed for a Champions League club.
Liverpool’s former boss Brendan Rodgers has snapped the veteran defender on a free transfer as he hopes to help the Celtic side in their adventure next season.
To finish off, Liverpool’s Joe Allen is now subject to a transfer battle between two clubs in the Premier League.
The player is set to cost around £13m and Stoke City seemed poised to snatch him up this summer. However, the player’s former side, Swansea City, is now reportedly ready to match the valuation leaving the decision in the player’s hand.
No official word is out yet but it is hard to see the Welsh international play in Liverpool colors next season.
