Sitting at the top of the table, Leicester City, after their recent run of results are no longer the under dogs and are expected to continue their dominance going into the New Year. However, they will face a tricky fixture on the Boxing Day against a Liverpool side that is winless in 4 games in all competitions. It will not be easy to play the Reds at home and Leicester will have to be at their best to take anything from this game.
Liverpool on the other hand were just de-moralizing to watch in the 3-0 loss to Watford. Jurgen Klopp’s new found energy that transformed into the team has run its path and is no longer visible on the field. The manager will have to change this quickly if they are to entertain any chances of playing in Europe next season. Here is the Preview of the game.
The Liverpool vs Leicester City game will be played on Saturday the 26th of December at the Anfield in Liverpool. The kick off is scheduled at 3:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST).
The home side will be without their long serving center back Martin Skrtel who has played every minute of the Premier League so far, due to an injury. But one again in the nick of the time, Dejan Lovren was declared fit for the game and will start at the back. Simon Mignolet is also expected to take his place in the starting lineup after he missed the game at Watford. Milner and Sturridge are still nursing their injuries on the side lines.
Claudio Ranieri will be happy to see Jamie Vardy declared fit after complaining of a hamstring pull. However, Danny Drinkwater, Matty James and Jeffery Schlupp are all sidelined for this game due to different injuries. Robert Huth will come back into the squad after serving a suspension while Okazaki with his winner at the Blue of Merseyside might help him keep his place in the squad.
Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno; Henderson, Lucas, Can; Lallana, Coutinho, Benteke
Schmeichel; Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs; Mahrez, King, Kante, Albrighton; Vardy, Okazaki
Lovren vs Vardy:
Jamie Vardy, the highest scorer in the Premier League this season is in absolutely terrific form and has been scoring for fun. It will be important for Liverpool to keep him and Mahrez quite for long periods if they are to get anything from this game. However it will not be easy for the home side as Lovren who will be up against Vardy is just back from injury. This might play into the visitors hands and might give them a slight advantage.
Benteke vs Huth:
Huth is back from a suspension and has been excellent for the Foxes before it. However, he has shown a slight weakness at the back against stronger opponents in the air and this might well be exploited by the home side with the likes of Benteke leading the line. Benteke is strong and exceptional in the air and will surely test Huth in front of the Leicester goal.
Leicester City: 4/1
Jurgen Klopp will have discussed and dissected the Watford game and will have learnt a lot about his team’s weaknesses. It will not be easy to remove all those mistakes in a week but he will surely emphasize on tightening the defense which should be able to hold off a team like Leicester. But the form in which they are, makes this game an interesting prospect and a hard one to call.
