Lukaku wants a reunion with Mourinho
Lukaku wants a reunion with Mourinho

Romelu Lukaku has confirmed he would be very much interested in work under Jose Mourinho again, with both having been heavily linked with Manchester United.

However, Lukaku’s latest comments will certainly frustrate Chelsea as their expected incoming manager Antonio Conte who is planning an overhaul of the squad at Chelsea this summer has his eyes set on Everton starlet Lukaku for a potential transfer this summer.

So far, Mourinho is favourite to replace under fire Louis van Gaal as United boss this summer, while Everton’s in-form striker Lukaku has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

Lukaku’s father recently revealed that the lethal striker must join either Bayern Munich or Manchester United in the future, and the 23-year-old has been valued at least £40million, according to latest reports.

The Belgian attacker worked with Mourinho for a brief spell during his time at Chelsea, with the Portuguese manager started him just twice before selling him to Everton for £28million.

Interestingly Mourinho has often publicly criticised Lukaku’s work rate, on the contrary, the striker has gone on to strike 77 goals in just 170 Premier League appearances.

When asked by Belgian outlet La Derniere Heure if he would entertain the idea of working under Mourinho once again, Lukaku quickly replied: “Of course. The page has turned on both sides.

“Some people will say that I need to convince him but it’s not a question of that. Three years ago I was 20 and I wasn’t ready to be immediately effective in a top team.

“Several good seasons, including the current one, have changed the situation. I’ll be 23 [in May] and I could leave this summer.”

Questioned about his father’s recent comments on Bayern and United, he further said: “I understand why he said that. When I was small, they were two teams that impressed me with their attacking strength.

“Then they’re teams that he likes a lot. We’ll see what happens. Whatever happens, it’s always nice to be linked with such clubs. That’s the proof that they’re watching me. The rest is my agent’s business.”

Romelu Lukaku’s scintillating form for Everton has attracted big clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. But in a bid to fend away these bidders, the Goodison Park outfit has put up a huge transfer fee on the Belgian.

According to some recent reports, Manchester United are the frontrunners in signing the striker and would potentially have to shell out 65 million pounds to get the frontman to Old Trafford.
