Man United Roundup: Top Class French Striker Close, Mou Backs Club For Prem Title And More

Red Devils have had a mixed season so far as they had a bright start to the season but then lost the way losing three games in a row and have looked good in few games before looking lmourinke an amateur team against Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League last month.

However, the club have managed an impressive 1-1 win away against Arsenal last weekend. Despite dropping points, Mourinho men really looked like a strong team against the title favorites Gunners which would be a good sign for their fans. They have also backed their good display with a 4-0 win against Feyenoord in Europa League this week. The Red Devils will now have to keep winning to have their campaign on track for a title challenge. Here we look all the stories around Manchester United today.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that French forward Anthony Martial struggles are due to the fact that the team plays much different way than the team of last season under Louis van Gaal.

The 20-year old has been one of the best players for the club last season but has failed to replicate a similar kind of form under Mourinho which has caused problems.

“Martial was OK for this game. It was just an option. He played last Sunday [against Arsenal],” Mourinho said. “I cannot play with 12 players. I cannot have on the bench 19, 20.

“You wanted to see Mkhitaryan and I wanted to too. I cannot play all of them at the same time. It was just an option. The players have to win their positions.

“They are friends, they are colleagues who work together every day but in the end they compete between themselves to have more chance to play. Anthony played against Arsenal. Thursday was a moment to give a chance for Mkhitaryan to start.”

Mourinho believes Manchester United can still win the Premier League if they play to their potential as he feels Premier League is very unpredictable.

“When I won the last title 18 years ago — sorry, 18 months ago — I had a 10 points advantage and then, in one month, I had the same points as Man City,” Mourinho said.

“We lost 10 points in one month. I think it was the end of December or the beginning of January and we’d lost 10 points.

“Then we recovered and won that title 18 years ago — sorry, 18 months ago. You can recover points. Others can lose points.”

Manchester United believes signing French striker Antoine Griezmann would be the perfect solution for their goal scoring problems in the recent times. He feels Zlatan Ibrahimovic is too old to lead the United front line while 19-year old Marcus Rashford lacks the experience.

“When you’re talking about a 36-year-old, as special as he’s been throughout his career, as special as he is now, I don’t think he should be the main [striker],”Scholes said in his role as a BT Sport pundit.

“I think Griezmann would be up there,” he said. “He looks a top centre-forward at Atletico and I think we have to be in the market for someone like that.”

Football pundit and former Manchester United player Robbie Savage feels the late introduction of Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks like he has been signed twice this season. The Armenian has shown his class against feyenoord and is largely tipped to be a starter for the weekend Premier League game against Everton.

‘On Thursday night, Mkhitaryan looked every inch the man who won last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year – he was dynamic and powerful, his movement and awareness were top-class and he was always looking for the ball,’ Savage wrote in the Daily Mirror.

‘It’s almost as if they have signed the same man twice: once in the summer, which was a false start, and now.

‘Mkhitaryan looks like he could bring the energy and freshness of a new signing to Old Trafford.’
