Man United set to beat Chelsea for £16m midfield sensation

  • Bernardo set to ignite a bidding war

Manchester United are all set to make a raid for Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva, according to Italian media.

Italian outlet Tuttosport say, the 21-year-old youngster could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer after refusing a tempting move to Juventus in the January window. The player was targeted by Chelsea also.

Bernardo Silva has so far scored 15 goals in 81 appearances for the French side putting United on alert to his talents.

Monaco, however, want around £16m for the starlet who has appeared 27 times in the league this season.

United are also interested in Silva’s compatriots Renato Sanches and Andre Gomes as they look to overhaul their squad this summer.

With Jose Mourinho firm favourite to take over from Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils are expected to be extremely busy this summer after a frustrating season.

They were dumped out of the Champions League in the group stage and are currently struggling to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Manchester United will return to Monaco after swooping for Anthony Martial at the beginning of the season for a staggering £36m.

The Red Devils next challenge is a trip to title contenders Tottenham on Sunday before they face an FA Cup sixth round replay against West Ham.

The Portuguese midfielder has caught the eye of many a clubs with his performances and apart from United has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona at the tender age of 21.

Earlier it seemed both the clubs might go head to head in a heated bidding war for the talented Portuguese midfielder over the upcoming transfer window but now United have boarded the train to throw a stiff challenge.

Monaco have been in financial trouble over the last couple of seasons and have been trying to offload players to generate income for their financial stability.

High profile exits include that of Falcao, James Rodrigues, Anthony Martial, Kurzawa and Carrasco over just the last couple of seasons. Replacements have not been adequate and hence we can see the club currently struggling especially in the Europa league where they failed to progress from the group stage.
