Man United Transfer Round Up: Mourinho gets Fergie approval, Renato back on the radar

  • Louis van Gaal hasn’t been afraid of splashing huge money since his arrival two summers ago, throwing £250million at transfer windows. But after a frustrating start to the season, beset by criticism over a style of play, he may be tempted to add yet again this January. However, the likes of Bale and Neymar are out of reach, despite interest from the club.

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Starting with the biggest news today if you are a United fan. Sir Alex Ferguson has finally given his approval for Jose Mourinho to replace van Gaal at Manchester United this summer, according to the latest report. Sir Alex and Sir Bobby Charlton allegedly had major doubts over the Portuguese manager replacing the Dutchman at Old Trafford based on pre-conceptions from his previous jobs in football. But things now look easier for Mourinho.

Marcus Rashford is also believed to be close to signing a new contract at Old Trafford. The youngster has burst onto the scene at United this season, scoring seven goals since his debut back in February.

Manchester United are reportedly going to return for Benfica youngster Renato Sanches this summer. And super-agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed that the Red Devils ultimately failed with a deadline-day bid for the highly-rated midfielder, but that is not the end of their interest, according to a report from The Sun. The Portuguese giants were demanding £45million for their star asset during the last transfer window, which United were ready to pay only if it involved performance-related bonuses. With two goals in 15 appearances this term, the 18-year-old midfield sensation isn’t the finished article. However, it would look that United are willing to spend on him at the end of this season.

According to latest reports, United had almost completed a package deal to sign Olympiakos defender Elabdellaoui on Monday, but the switch finally broke down at the last moment. The Red Devils had the plan to take him on-loan with a chance to make it permanent for £7.5million, but both clubs could not agree on a loan fee. However, despite a deal didn’t happen then, Gazzetta claims United still remain very interested in him ahead of a summer move. A small, agile and a fast right-back, Elabdellaoui has impressed everyone since leaving Manchester City in 2013.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly planning a shock move for Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy. The Guardian have claimed the 30-year-old could become a United player next season, and the player himself will be keen to get some playing time to boost his career. However, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem to be interested in letting the France international leave.

Manchester  United Scouts were seen in Sporting Lisbon’s 1-0 win over Moreirense as latest rumours suggested they were there to watch William Carvalho and Joao Mario, the two summer targets in action. United have already started to plan for life next season following a disappointing Premier League season And the Portuguese pair is strongly on their radar, according to a report from The Sun. 24-year-old Carvalho has been targeted by United scouts over the past few years, despite being a target for Arsenal. But 23-year-old Mario has claimed United’s interest in recent weeks. Mario has impressed everyone this season on the left wing and could now be set for a transfer.

United are also lining up a shock move for Ajax defender Kenny Tete this summer. The Dutch youngster has only played 29 matches for Ajax since making his debut in 2013 but the 20-year-old is already being linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Daily Mirror claim, the Old Trafford hierarchy are considering an unexpected bid for the right-back after he rejected to renew his contract with the Amsterdam club. Tete, who is currently valued at around £5million, can also operate in central defence, that’s why it would be a versatile addition to the Red Devils’ squad next season.
