If you told a West Ham fan that his team would take nine points from three games at the Emirates, the Anfield, and the Etihad, he would have brushed you off. But this season, Slaven Bilic has taken his teams to a height not many even dream off. West Ham beat Manchester City with 2 first half goals from Victor Moses and Sakho. The city could not score more than once as they failed to take even a point from the game.

The Moses goal was the first goal in Manchester City’s net this season and this was their first loss of the new campaign. Here are the player ratings for the match.

Manchester City

Joe Hart (3.5): Couldn’t do much with either of the goals but was alert all the game and made some crucial interceptions coming off the line.

Bacary Sagna (2.5): Was disciplined in defense but often found lots of space in the attack which he could not utilize well.

Mangala (3): Was substituted at half-time due to an injury but was solid at the back and made some important last ditch tackles as well.

Otamendi (3): An assured performance at the back and showed his aerial ability when needed. Will learn more the more he plays.

Kolarov (1.5): Was shaky in defense for most of the game. He was liable for both the West Ham goals as he gave far too much space for Moses and conceded an unnecessary corner.

Fernandinho (2): Was a mere spectator in the first half as he provided almost no solidarity in front of the City’s back line during West Ham’s counters.

Yaya Toure (3.5): Started to control the game in the second half and caused plenty of problems to the West Ham defenders. Unlucky not to score.

Navas (2.5): Troubled Cresswell down the flank with his pace but often lacked the incisive pass that was needed to open the West Ham defenses.

de Bruyne (4): Easily the best player on the pitch for City. Scored his first goal for the club and looked like he will make things happen when he was on the ball.

Raheem Sterling (2.5): Failed to use his pace down the flank and also lacked the end product. Was the first player to be substituted.

Aguero (2): Did not look like he was fit to start the game. Looked off the pace and missed chances which a 100% Aguero would finish.

West Ham United:

Adrian (4.5): Made some great saves to deny Manchester City even a point. The close-range save from Otamendi’s header was his best contribution on the night.

Jenkinson (4): Kept Sterling at bay all game and provided some great pace down the flanks in attack. A complete performance from the Arsenal loanee.

Winston Reid (4): A solid center half performance as he dominated in the air and never allowed City to dictate the penalty area.

Tomkins (3): Not a bad game for Tomkins as he partnered well in a solid back 4. Also showed an ability to start a counter for West Ham.

Cresswell (2.5): Struggled with the pace of Navas down the flank and was easily beaten at times. Needs to show more determination.

Obiang (3.5): The wall in front of the back four the did not give the City attackers any space outside the box. Also provided an assist for West Ham’s second.

Noble (3.5): The new skipper showed plenty of intent going forward and linked up well with Sakho in the attack.

Lanzini (3): An assured performance as he kept his energy levels up for most of the game in attack as well as a defense.

Payet (3.5): Did a great job holding the ball up in attack but also made some important runs from a defense that eased the pressure off the visitors.

Sakho (3.5): Often stretched the defenses with pace opened up spaces all over the field for his players. A bright performance from the forward and also picked up a goal with his persistence.

Victor Moses (3.5): A debut goal for West Ham in under 10 minutes at the Etihad. Always provided the outlet down the right as he gave West Ham something to play off in the attack.

Slaven Bilic’s side is now place in the 2nd position with 12 points from six games. The manager will be on top of the world after a victory against the league leaders. Pellegrini, however, ended a drastic week which saw his team lose twice in a span of just 5 days. It will be good to see how they bounce back from these losses.
