Man City vs Chelsea Player Ratings: Find Out Who Excelled In This Mega Showdown

Antonio Conte’s men managed to open up a 4 point gap at the top of the points table, atleast for a day as they managed to take all three points from their trip the Etihad in the Premier League this weekend. Gary Cahill’s own goal gave the hosts the lead the on the night but goals from Diego Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard in the last half hour gave the Blues a much deserved victory on the night. Manchester City are now 4 points behind the league leaders and have some improvement to do before they can get back to challenging for the title. Here are the player ratings for both the sides:

Manchester City:

Manchester City v Chelsea - Premier League

Claudio Bravo (5):

Could do nothing to save any of the goals on an otherwise comfortable night for the shot stopper.

John Stones (5):

Hung on to the ball too long at times to give the Blues a way back into the game.

Nicolas Otamendi (4):

Picked up a booking early in the game and was ineffective as a result on a troublesome night.

Aleksandar Kolarov (5):

Stuck to his task well on the flank but had a torrid time against Willian in the second half.

Fernandinho (5):

Scored an offside goal and was sent off for the late drama at the Etihad on a happening night for the midfielder.

Ilkay Gundogan (5):

Hardly had an influence on the game and had to be replaced by Yaya Toure in the second half.

Jesus Navas (7):

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN CITY-CHELSEA

Was energetic on the flank troubling Chelsea throughout the game and also provided the cross for the own goal.

Kevin de Bruyne (5):

Spilled a sitter when 1-0 up and slowly faded away in what will be termed as a disappointing game for the attacker.

David Silva (5):

Though started impressively, failed to maintain the intensity for the 90 minutes and was ineffective late in the game.

Leroy Sane (5):

Covering for injuries, the youngster had a dull night and was the first man to be removed by Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero (5):

Also missed a sitter on the night as he was frustrated and picked up a red card and a 4 match ban for his antics on the field.

Subs:

Gael Clichy (5):

Came on to replace Sane early in the second half but failed to have the kind of an impact his manager expected from him.

Yaya Toure (5):

Came on for Gundogan with 15 minutes to play but failed to get his side back into the game.

Kelechi Iheanacho (5):

Replaced Stones to add some attacking power to the side late in the game but it was too late for the youngster to have a say on the night.

Thibaut Courtois (6):

Made a number of fine saves on the night to give his side all three points from this game.

Cesar Azpilicueta (6):

Stuck to his task well at the back and put in a couple of important blocks on a victorious night.

David Luiz (5):

Should have picked up a red early in the game for a foul on Aguero but was solid otherwise throughout the game.

Gary Cahill (5):

Got himself in a tangle for the own goal and was also indecisive at times on a frustrating night for the skipper.

Victor Moses (6):

Showed his defensive side of the game by putting in a fabulous performance at the back to help his side hold on to a victory on the night.

Cesc Fabregas (7):

Handed a rare start by Conte, Fabregas, did justice to his place, ruling the midfield and also picking up the assist for Costa’s goal.

N Golo Kante (6):

Started the game in nervous fashion but was back to his energetic best at the time when Chelsea needed him the most.

Pedro (5):

Ineffective for a change for Chelsea, Pedro, failed to have any kind of an impact on the squad and was replaced by Willian in the second half.

Eden Hazard (7):

Though picked up an injury very early in the game, the Belgian was back to his best, putting in a star performance, getting a goal and giving his side all three points from this game.

Diego Costa (8):

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN CITY-CHELSEA

Continuing his goal scoring form, Costa, was once again at his best in this game against City as he was a constant nuisance in the final third, picking himself up a goal on the night.

Subs:

Willian (7):

Came in to replace the ineffective Pedro early in the second half an had an immediate impact, creating chances and finally getting his goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Nathaniel Chalobah (5):

Replaced Costa with less than 5 minutes to play and got some minutes under his belt for the future.

Michy Batshuayi (5)
