Manchester City hunt down defending champions Chelsea at Etihaad Stadium, as they score thrice in the high Premier League game. Sergio Aguero (31 mins), Vincent Kompany (79 mins) and Fernandinho (85 mins) were on target to guide the Cityzens to a smooth win in the second game of the season. Manchester City goes up to the top of the table while Chelsea struggle at the bottom half with just a point from two games.
Jose Mourinho had fielded Ramires in place of an unfit Oscar and Asmir Begovic replaced suspended Thibaut Courtois. Manuel Pellegrini made just one change as Argentine star Sergio Aguero came back to the starting lineup in place of Wilfried Bony.
The game began in a good pace as both the teams attacked with equal zeal. But as the game progressed it became more and more physical. Diego Costa hurted Yaya Toure aerially while winning a ball in the 20th minute. The tempers rose from thereon. Soon Vincent Kompany pulled off a harsh tackle on Costa.
Last season’s top scorer Sergio Aguero opened his account as he broke the deadlock in 31st minute. Yaya Toure architected a brilliant move from the edge of the box. John Terry was at fault as he left his position and came forward to keep a check on David Silva. Sergio Aguero recieved the ball inside the penalty when he was surrounded by 4 Chelsea players. The striker skillfully edged past all his markers and found the back of the net gracefully.
At the end of the first half Chelsea were jolted by double injuries. Gary Cahill first took a knock on his nose and was taken out for treatment. In the very next move Fernandinho shouldered Diego Costa which in a head injury for the latter. The medical team was busy treating Cahill so Costa got the treatment a bit later.
Tempers again rose during the half time as Costa targetted Fernandinho while walking towards the tunnel.
Jose Mourinho to everyone’s surprise replaced captain Joh Terry with Kurt Zouma in the second half. But his decision was justified as Terry had a very poot outing.
Soon Juan Cuadrado was fielded in place of Ramires as Chelsea took an attacking approach. City defense was resolute under the leadership of Kompany and dealt with the situation well. Raheem Sterling did commendable job on the pitch as he made quite a few good moves down the left flank.
The lead was increased in the 75th minute when Vincent Kompany scored his goal in two matches from David Silva’s cross. It was brilliant header by the Belgian international which beat Begovic easily.
Radamel Falcao came out on the pitch replacing Willian in the later stages in hope of atleast finding one goal. But the last nail on Chelsea’s coffin was hammered by Fernandinho. Chelsea’s fragile defense made yet another blunder as they failed to get rid of the ball quickly from the defensive zone. David Silva hunted down Branislav Ivanovic and passed the ball towards Fernandinho on the other side of the penalty box. The Brazilian unleashed a great shot which went inside like a bullet.
The Cityzens registered a comfortable win over giants Chelsea and are already looking title favourites. On the other hand, Chelsea’s problems have aggravated both on and off the pitch. The Blues are yet to find a win in their title defending campaign.
