Manchester City are confident over signing Barcelona’s star forward Lionel Messi this summer, according to reports.
The 29-year old who was brought up from La Masia, will be out of contract in 2018 and will have only one year left in his ongoing contract in the summer. The Blaugrana have so far remained reluctant to meet the massive £650,000 a week wage demands of Messi.
The Argentine earns £400,000 a week after taxes in Spain which will aggregate to a massive £20 million a year with the Spanish giants. The contract talks have been happening over the past one year and have not reached any conclusion as the Catalan club could be ready to do business for the Argentine this summer.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expected to be handed a massive £200 million money for transfer activity next summer as reports suggest that as many as 18 first team players’ future could be in doubt ahead of next summer.
However, the Spaniard has ruled out the claims of mass reconstruction of squad as he termed it as impossible.
‘The people make a report about our performance in Monaco, and the people said we are going to change 12 or 13 players,’ he said.
‘I am going to assure you it’s impossible today to do that.
‘You have to be a little bit more responsible, you have to imagine being the club.
‘Thirteen players have a contract and maybe you have to pay them to go there, to pay their salaries, and [then] pay £40m or £50m for every player, we are going to spend £500m or £600m, it’s impossible.’
However, a move to Lionel Messi would be an ideal way to begin their next season as it does not only improve their squad but will hugely boost their commercial revenue as his merchandise is one of the best selling across the world.
