Striker Sergio Aguero who picked an injury during Argentina’s surprising 2-0 defeat to Ecuador in World Cup qualifier revealed he will not be available for at least a month. That’s a big blow for man city. On October 25th, they have Manchester derby, along with champions league matches against Sevilla on October 21 and November 3.
Medical reports say, Aguero has got a grade two muscle tear in his left thigh just after half an hour mark during Argentina’s first South American qualifier for the 2018 World Cup played at the River Plate stadium on Thursday. He was stretchered off with agonising pain.
“It seems I will be out for a month,” Aguero told when leaving a Buenos Aires clinic where his primary tests were made. A grade-two tear in hamstring can sideline a player two to eight weeks depending on the situation and everybody is familiar with the striker’s history of hamstring injuries.
“I’ll carry on my further treatment in the Argentine Football Association’s national team complex. Doctors advised, to get back to full fitness and recover from the injury I will need minimum a month, but it also depends on how things improve,” he further stated.
It is confirmed that Argentina will have to play Tuesday’s second away qualifier against Paraguay without Aguero. Further to the crisis, he is also doubtful for next month’s home encounter with the mighty Brazilians.
The Manchester City striker himself told that he played the Ecuador match, not in his full fitness. There was some fitness concern. “I had a very little rest before the game because of tight fixtures and was also in doubt, but at the very last minute decided to continue as there was no Messi in the squad. As a player, you don’t want to miss any single match but you never know what can happen,” Aguero revealed.
The stylish Manchester City striker had five goals in Manchester City’s 6-1 bulldozing over Newcastle United last week. Although Pellegrini substituted him before the end as a safety precaution.
The Argentina Football Association, apart from the muscle tear of Aguero also confirmed the injury to midfielder Lucas Biglia, who has joined a growing Argentina injury list which already has the names of Lionel Messi. Barcelona’s Argentine forward is also doubtful for the qualifiers in November against Brazil and Colombia. The other players in Gerardo Martino’s injury list are defender Marcos Rojo, midfielders Fernando Gago, Ever Banega and Roberto Pereyra.
