Manchester City’s best proved second best on the night as the Spanish giants have moved closer to a quarter final place in this year’s Champions League. Barcelona were on fire in the first half which saw City being outclassed completely. First half produced two goals for Luis Suarez on his first game back in England since his move in the summer.

Barcelona looked a bit too over confident in the second half which allowed City a route back in the second half and Sergio Aguero in his typical style scored a magical goal to keep the tie just about alive for City. Man City will need to win the game at the Cam Nou or at least score 3 goals and hope for the best.

On a night such as this, City expected a better performances from their stars but their inexperience in the Champions League showed for good. We take a look at some more Talking Points from the game tonight.

Tie could have been over, but is still alive:

2 away goals and the next game to be played at Camp Nou, if many are predicting this tie to be over they certainly do know their football. It could have been all over for City had Messi scored from the penalty. Joe Hart made a brilliant save to keep the score line at 2-1.

Samir Nasri came in to the game claiming, City do not fear Barcelona this time round, he may be right there but for City to come back in this tie looks impossible.

Sergio Aguero has given some hope to City with his trademark saviour goal for City and it could see a slight fight back in the second leg but will it be enough will have to be seen.

It seems, Luis Suarez has still got it: Much was made of Luis Suarez’s lack of goals coming in to the game. Only 6 goals in 22 matches does not justify Suarez as a player which we all saw in England. Well he was back playing in a familiar ground and he showed his class yet against scoring two typical Luis Suarez goals based on pure instinct and being at the right place and making the right decision.

Barcelona handed City a Champions League master class:

With all their star studded team, Manchester City cannot deny the fact that their squad lack Champions League experience, both individually and as a squad. The same inexperience was on show as Barcelona handed them a real lesson at the biggest stage in club football.

Lionel Messi showed his class ONCE MORE:

Lionel Messi has been in amazing form this year. 16 goals already this year but tonight it was not about goals for Messi it was him being in positions where he can supply Suarez and Neymar. Messi drifted wide, came inside and even was willing to drop deep to collect ball and run at Manchester City defenders. I have not seen Messi play better than what he did tonight.

Pellegrini’s 2 striker strategy backfired:

Manuel Pellegrini went back to play his tried and trusted two-striker strategy and it backfired badly. City hoped to disrupt Barcelona’s defense with Dzeko feeding off the balls from wide areas. Plan sounded right but City players failed to get on the ball enough to supply Dzeko with anything.
