Manchester City vs Chelsea: Preview, Predictions, Expected Lineups and Betting Odds

Premier League this season continues to provide some intense fixtures every weekend and this time, it’s Chelsea’s turn to travel to the Etihad, in what can easily be the game of the season so far.

Chelsea are currently at the top of the Premier League table courtesy their victory over the Spurs last weekend. A draw here can dent chances of both sides while a loss can easily push them down the table. Both teams will look to play their best football so as to secure a win. Here is the preview of this game along with the team news, expected lineups, predictions and betting odds.

The Manchester City vs Chelsea game will be played on Saturday December 3 at the Etihad stadium in Manchester. The kickoff is scheduled at 12:30 pm BST (6:00 pm IST).

Team News:

Manchester City don’t have too many problems leading into this game. Mid-fielder Fabian Delph and winger Raheem Sterling may be back in action this week while Vincent Kompany remains the only absentee for Guardiola in this game.

Chelsea skipper John Terry is still not fit and will miss this game against Manchester City alongside John Obi-Mikel, who remains the only other injury concern for the manager.

Expected lineups:

Manchester City:

Bravo; Sagna, Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernandinho; Sterling, Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Aguero.

Key Battles:

Diego Costa vs Nicolas Otamendi:

The Spanish striker has been in the form of his life this season, as he is currently the top scorer in the domestic league. He is a top class player who can take the game away from Manchester City on the night and Otamendi could be the one who could keep him quiet. This battle will potentially decide the outcome of the game.

Sergio Aguero vs David Luiz:

The Brazilian defender has been in sublime form this season putting in strong performances for over a month now. However, he will be up against Sergio Aguero, who has struck form in last few games. Both players are established internationals from South America and will resume their rivalry at the Etihad this weekend.

Key Stats:

Manchester City have won their last two Premier League meetings with Chelsea, while they haven’t won three in succession against the Blues since the 2010/11 season.

Chelsea have collected just two points from their last four league games against City (D2 L2), which is their current longest winless streak against them in the competition’s history (four games).

Pep Guardiola could become just the second Manchester City manager in the Premier League era to win his first meeting with Chelsea, following Roberto Mancini in 2009/10 (the Italian is the only one among Man City’s previous 10 managers in the competition to have done so).

Chelsea have won 11 games away at Manchester City in the Premier League; their most against a team away from home in the competition’s history.

Sergio Aguero has scored four times in his last two Premier League games against Chelsea, including a hat-trick in his last league meeting against the Blues.

Antonio Conte is the first Chelsea manager to win seven consecutive Premier League games within a single season since Jose Mourinho (nine wins in 2006/07).

Premier League players wearing the number 10 shirt have been responsible for the most goals this season (58); with Sergio Aguero (10 goals) and Eden Hazard (7) contributing 29% of that total.

Chelsea are the only Premier League side yet to score or concede a headed goal this season.

Manchester City have kept just two clean sheets in their 13 Premier League games under Pep Guardiola; only three sides have kept fewer shutouts so far this term.

Diego Costa has the best minutes per goal ratio of any Chelsea player in Premier League history (min. 10 scored), averaging one every 134 minutes.

Betting Odds:

Manchester City: 11/10

Draw: 5/2

Chelsea: 5/2

Predictions:

The Blues are in the middle of a superb run of form, winning seven back to back games in the domestic league. However, the last two times they faced a team from the top-4 was the only time they lost a game this season. Manchester City, playing at home, will make it hard for Chelsea but Conte’s side will hope to take at least a point from this game.

Our Prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Chelsea
