Manchester clubs to battle for Ogbonna

The summer transfer window is set to be one of the most influential in recent times at least in England.

With clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all looking to overhaul their squad, it will be busy two months for clubs all over Europe.

Recent reports have suggested that the Manchester teams are set to battle it out for star West Ham defender after the end of the season.

Angelo Ogbonna who made the move to West Ham United from Juventus last summer has been at the heart of the defense for the Upton Park franchise and has since attracted interests from a lot of clubs in Europe.

Though the 27-year old had a tough time at the beginning of the campaign, he has taken a solid place in Slaven Bilic’s squad and also scored the winner in the FA Cup victory over Liverpool.

And now The Times has reported that the defender has emerged as a target for Manchester City and Manchester United, two clubs who want to solve their defensive problems from this season.

The Red Devils will be waiting to get their hand on the £8.5 million man as they have lacked a strong central defense and have used Michael Carrick and Daley Blind in that position over this season.

Manchester City on the other end are really unsure about the partner for Vincent Kompany as both Otamendi and Mangala have failed to live-up to their expectations.

Ogbonna, who was on the verge of a move to Manchester United before his move to Juventus from Turin has been strong at the back for the Hammers and has shown great signs of maturity.

He has made 22 appearances for West Ham in all competitions this season and will only grow more confident the more he plays regularly in this league.

However, if he is good enough to start at the heart of the defense for a team like United or one this is managed by Pep Guardiola is yet to be seen.
