Manchester United have come back to winning ways and gave the Old Trafford faithful something to cheer when they beat Bundesliga outfit, Wolfsburg in the Champions League group stage fixture on Wednesday. Juan Mata was the star on the day as he scored a goal and set one up for the hosts.
Let’s take a look at the player ratings for this match.
David de Gea (3): The away team were not really threatening on the night and De Gea did not have an awful lot to do. Could have done better to save the goal after getting his fingers to it.
Antonio Valencia (2): A day to forget for Valencia as he played Caliguiri onside for the first goal. Was never comfortable on the ball on the flanks.
Chris Smalling (3): Was troubled at times in defense as he was shaky after conceding early. But redeemed himself with a smart finish to give his team a victory.
Daley Blind (3): Stuck to his task timidly as he never allowed the Wolfsburg forward line any space in his third of the field.
Matteo Darmian (3): An ever assured performance in an unfamiliar position. Was troubled by Draxler but stuck to his basics and saw the game off.
Morgan Schneiderlin (2.5): Never really dictated the game like he would have wanted. Could have easily picked up a second yellow late in the game.
Bastian Schweinsteiger (3.5): Showed his pedigree in the middle as he controlled the tempo of the game spraying pass after pass to set up the United attacks.
Juan Mata (3.5): Was lively all game and also sparked the United comeback. Converted from the spot and set Smalling up to give his team all three points.
Wayne Rooney (3): Not his usual self which was evident when he skied his shot from 8 yards out. Never really troubled the Wolfsburg defense.
Memphis Depay (3): Played an hour of inconsistent football on the day. His touch led him down sometimes as he looked lost on the wings.
Anthony Martial (3.5): Was not scathed by the occasion as he stuck to his strengths. Ran through the middle of the away defenses giving them plenty of headaches.

Benaglio (3): Made some crucial saves to deny Manchester United but couldn’t do much with Smalling’s finish.
Trasch (2.5): Was a threat in attack for United as they were left exposed down the flanks. Got booked unnecessarily in the second half.
Naldo (2.5): Made some last ditch challenges but was beaten too easily on occasions. Should have done better to close down Mata for the second goal.
Dante (3): Made his presence felt at the back as he made life difficult for the home team. Denied Mata with a wonderful diving header.
Rodriguez (2.5): Was troubled by the likes of Mata and Martial for most of the game. Was not convincing enough at the back.
Guilavogui (2.5): Broke the home team’s attacking play many times but was often wayward with his distribution.
Draxler (3): Played down the flanks and in the middle. Was always a handful for the United defense as he played with some real purpose.
Arnold (3): Was a real force to reckon with in the middle of the park. got a player or two booked with his touch and presence of mind.
Kruse (2): A superb ball to set up Caligiuri for the first goal but after that, rarely had any say in the attacking front for the away team.
Caligiuri (3): A mixed afternoon for him as he opened the scoring for the away team but gave away a penalty after handling the ball in his own area.
Dost (3): Held the ball up really when at times to let his teammates join in. But was often a lonely figure as his midfield failed to dominate the game.
