Manchester United are considering a move to sign Lazio star Felipe Anderson before the end of the transfer window. The flamboyant Brazilian has long been a target for the Red Devils and they have rekindled their interest in the attacking midfielder.
The 22 year Brazilian international joined the Italian club from Santos in 2013. He has been in impressive form, scoring 10 goals and managing seven assists in 32 league games during the 2014/15 season and also helping them make it to the Champions League play-off.
However, the Serie A outfit were eliminated from Europe’s top-tier club competition after they lost to Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off and got a chance to play in Europa League. Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web reportsManchester United are looking to take advantage of this situation and test their resolve by making an approach.
The Old Trafford club have placed a €45m (£32.8m, $50.6m) to lure the South American to join the English club in the final week of the summer transfer. However, the Italian outfit is not willing to do business in the closing stages of the window.
Louis van Gaal has long been maintained his interested in securing the services of the 22-year-old, who still has five years left on his contract with Lazio. Earlier in June, Anderson rubbished reports linking him with a move away from his current employers.
“Next year? All I know is I’ll be playing for Lazio. I only recently renewed my contract for another five years. I’m thinking about that shirt, and nothing else. I don’t know of any offers, my future is at Lazio,” Anderson is quoted as saying by the Express.
Felipe Anderson was one of seven stand-by players named by coach Dunga for Brazil’s squad at the 2015 Copa América in Chile. He made his debut in a warm-up match against Mexico on 7 June of that year, playing the final seven minutes in place of Fred in a 2–0 victory at Allianz Parque in São Paulo.
A quick, hard-working, and technically gifted player, Felipe Anderson is predominantly known for his pace and is regarded as one of the fastest players in the modern game, he also possesses good ball control, and dribbling ability; he is also a versatile player and is capable of playing as a forward, as a winger, and as an attacking midfielder. In addition to his technical skills, he is gifted with powerful striking ability from the distance with either foot and is an accurate set-piece and penalty kick taker. He can also serve as an assist-man due to his creative ability and eye for the final pass.
Prior to his senior cap, he appeared 2 times fro the Selecao under-21 side, and 4 times for under-20 side.
Felipe Anderson would be a great signing for Red Devils if the deal goes through. His quality, vision and pace will improve Manchester United’s final third and his versatility would add even more sharpness to the Manchester United team.
Manchester United also got linked with Julian Draxler yesterday and it is clearly visible that they are looking for a versatile attacking midfielder and we will have to see if they can conclude the window with any of the two young promising players.
