Manchester boss Louis Van Gaal has hinted that goal keeper David De Gea might quit the club at the end of the season. He is currently one of the hottest property in the transfer market and top clubs like Real Madrid and their rivals Atletico Madrid are lined up in signing the super star. There were some rumours in the past month or so which said that De Gea is all set to be the natural successor for Iker Casillas at Real Madrid and is on his way to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu during the summer window.
Adding more salt to the wound is the fact De Gea is running out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season. There were also rumours that Real Madrid are willing to accept a swap between De Gea and their Welsh winger Gareth Bale. Both the players denied this deal in the past and now, Manchester United’s Dutch manager Van Gaal has dropped a bombshell. He even said in football everything is possible when asked about De Gea’s move to Real Madrid. Van Gaal also admitted that he would like to have the Spaniard with his team for a long time. De Gea’s manager Jorge Mendes, who also manages the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Radamel Falcao etc., was recently quoted saying: “He’s a United player and has a contract there. You have to respect that but things change every five minutes.”
De Gea was an £18.9m buy from Atletico Madrid in 2011. After a rocky start in the Premier League he has since established himself as one of the most respected goalkeepers in the world. United’s recent acquisition of former Barcelona goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, has further fuelled speculation surrounding De Gea’s role at Old Trafford. He is one of the main reasons why United are in the top 4 in the Premier League table.
