Manchester United have been dealt a massive blow to their pursuit of a stable midfield player after Ilkay Gundogan agrees a new contract with Borussia Dortmund until 30 June 2017.
The news was officially confirmed by Dortmund’s twitter account where they confirmed Gundogan’s new contract until 2017.

The German was the odds on favorite to become Louis Van Gaal’s second summer signing following Memphis Depay.
Sources close to Dortmund believe that the player is persuaded by the ideas of new Dortmund manager Michael Zorc. Dortmund were fearing the worse when they were preparing for the exits of both Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan once Jurgan Klopp left the club.
However, the German club is doing very well not only keeping hold of Reus and Gundogan but also convincing Mats Hummels to continue his stay with the club. Hummels was another one linked with an Old Trafford switch.
It has become a trend these days to see Manchester United miss out on the rumored midfield targets. To name a few would be Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arturo Vidal, William Carvalho and Sami Khedira.
All of these big names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but have ended up getting a transfer to some other teams or get an improved contract with their current club.
To make the matter worse, Manchester United have failed to sign Morgan Schneiderlin as well who, according to all the media sources is the most probable signing of the summer for the red devils.
