Manchester United are planning to be very active in the January transfer window and right now left back is the position which concerns United manager van Gaal more than ever.
As Luke Shaw sidelined with a double broken leg, the Dutch manager has recently revealed he is keen to sign a new left back in January and according to reports former Chelsea star Ashley Cole is targeted for a short term option. If the deal succeeds, it would be an interesting purchase as van Gaal could face lots of criticism regarding his transfer policy.
Van Gaal gave a clear view about Luke Shaw’s current situation, “Luke’s rehabilitation is going well, but the process can be very slow. I don’t know if he will play again this season. The doctors won’t take any risks with him, which is good.
“I was convinced Luke would have a very good season and because of that I didn’t buy a second player for left-back. Maybe we have to buy a left-back in January.”
While Manchester United are reported to be ready to spend any amount of cash to sign new options, it is suggested that they are eyeing only a short term deal and according to reports coming out of British media, van Gaal is planning a move for ex-Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole.
Cole has fallen massively out of favour at Italian Roma following his move from Chelsea in 2014 and it seems obvious that the veteran defender will leave the Italian capital in January to try his luck in Premier League.
However, a possible move to Major League Soccer is also on the cards for him but now rumours are suggesting that United are ready to make a swoop for the former Arsenal and Chelsea star till the end of this campaign. Not only United, he was also linked with Newcastle United.
Last season the 34-year-old defender played 16 matches for Roma, but this season hasn’t appeared for his club since March.
