In the early hours of Thursday, Sunderland made an initial inquiry over the possibilities of taking Adnan Januzaj on loan for the next season. The Belgian winger has been promised a first team action next season but the possibility of Pedro or Nicolas Gaitan coming at Old Trafford could only bring bad news for Januzaj.
Louis Van Gaal has been keen on playing Januzaj further up front in a 3-men forward line, which to his credit Januzaj adapted pretty well during United’s pre-season tour, however, he did not show the levels which would convince the manager to start with him week-in-week-out in the Premier League or the Champions League.
Januzaj, 20 is still a young talent for Manchester United which they would not want to miss out on but they are not ready to bed in and give him enough playing time to fulfill his developments. A loan away from the Old Trafford club looks to be the best option for the young winger and Sunderland could give him that.
Sunderland under Dick Advocat are looking for creative players and Januzaj has shown in past what he can offer given the confidence and freedom to operate with. It was Sunderland who saw the emergence of Januzaj in a 2-1 win for Manchester United where the Belgian scored both goals and one of them was even compared to the famous Zinedine Zidane volley in the Champions League final.
As things stand, Januzaj’s best route in to United’s line-up would be to spend a season away from the club and gain vital Premier League experience. Once Januzaj is put in the market for loan offers, teams would rush to sign him on but for now Sunderland are the only frontrunners for his servces.
