Manchester United have come for a great deal of criticism in recent past as Louis Van Gaal’s team have been labelled as a side who play slow and boring football. Well, take it as you like but Van Gaal has finally got his team playing in the philosophy he has advertised since coming to England.
Against Sunderland, we saw United dominate possession and not only that, there was a great deal of creativity and vigor going forward. United passed Sunderland out of the game and right on the half-time mark, a super ball from Daley Blind was smartly squared by Juan Mata for Memphis to put United in front.
Once again, Van Gaal has got his team switched on even till the finally minutes of a half and that was the reason for United’s opener. With Manchester City’s defeat earlier in the day, there was a huge chance for United to go top for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club and perhaps that was the initiative discussed during the half-time talk as United took the lead 36 seconds in to the second half.
More pleasing for United fans, it was Wayne Rooney who scored a Premier League goal after exactly 1000 minutes. After the Rooney’s goal, United were all over Sunderland making chances and looking to add more. It paid off when Ashley Young bamboozled Sunderland’s defense and crossed for Mata to slot home United’s third goal on the night.
With the win, United are now 1 point clear of Manchester City as they lead Premier League table for the first time in over 2 years. Anthony Martial was star of the show once again as the 19-year old showed great strength and understanding to outplay entire Sunderland’s defense.
