This news is surely going to ruffle Louis Van Gaal’s feathers. The Manchester United manager has already lashed out at reporters in his recent press conferences for linking Mourinho with the Manchester United job and English newspaper the Daily Mail have gone a step ahead claiming that Mourinho has told close friends that he is set to replace LVG as the new Manchester United gaffer.

Although LVG signed a 3 year contract with the Red Devils when he replaced David Moyes, the Dutchman is not expected to stay at United beyond this season. Manchester United have spent a fortune on new players but the results have been unsatisfactory. LVG did show some promise in his first season in-charge when he guided United to a top-4 finish but this season has been really bad for both manager and club.

Manchester United fans have become frustrated with United’s lack of attacking football and the Old Trafford crowd have booed their manager on a number of occasions this season. United currently occupy a respectable 5th position in the table but are 6 points adrift off the top 4. LVG was expected to face the sack earlier this season but has somehow managed t o hang on. However, his reign will not last more than 2 years if the Daily mail are to be believed.

They report that Jose Mourinho has has told associates that the move to Old Trafford is done and he is set to take over at the end of the season.

Earlier this week, there were reports of contact between the Old Trafford hierarchy and the ex-Chelsea boss but Louis Van Gaal dismissed those reports. Jose Mourinho has been unemployed ever since he was sacked by Chelsea in December but it looks that he will be back soon.

If Mourinho does land the United job, he will reignite his rivalry with Pep Guardiola who has already been announced as the next Manchester City boss.
